February reading
What I read in the month of February 2021
In February, I managed to read 6 books (fiction and non-fiction) on a wide variety of topics.
Book: Lawrence Wright — God Save Texas
Genre: Non-fiction; historical; factual; current affairs
Rating: 8 out of 10
I’ve always been fascinated by the United States of America and been fortunate to visit on several occasions. However, all my visits have been to the East coast and I’ve never ventured further West.
I think I was recently drawn to Texas by Joe Rogan leaving California and moving to the State and also by reading Matthew McConaughey’s autobiography — Greenlights.
Texas is a State which is very much steeped in Red (Republican) but has a lot of Blue (Democrat) elements.
One place I would love to visit is the capital of Austin as I’ve heard good things about the city and it’s welcoming culture. It’s now the second more popular tourist destination, in America, behind Las Vegas.
In the book, Lawrence highlights a lot about Texas being the only State in the USA with it’s own electrical grid. And it invested $7bn in high-voltage transmission lines to carry wind-power through the State.
